In fashion, 2007 was a year of do's, don'ts and oh-no-they-didn'ts! From BRITNEY SPEARS' too-revealing sequined bikini at the MTV VMAs to LINDSAY LOHAN's clunky, alcohol-monitoring anklet and MARY-KATE OLSEN's "babboon" dress, there were plenty of red-carpet fashion pile-ups. So who set the gold standard? With the help of our style guru STEVEN COJOCARU, here are the best (and worst) of the year!

JENNIFER LOPEZ had a very high-glam year. At the Golden Globes, she looked like an Egyptian queen in her one-shouldered MARCHESA gown with ornate embroidered trim, which she smartly accessorized with gold bracelets and earrings and big, beautiful pulled-back hair. She followed up the trend at the Oscars with another Marchesa, this time with its own bejeweled neckline. "She was Athena, she was Aphrodite!" Cojo raved.

Newly single girl next door REESE WITHERSPOON surprised everyone when she attended the Oscars in full vamp mode -- with stick-straight hair in an attention-grabbing eggplant NINA RICCI dress with turn-of-the-century ruffling at the bottom -- very modern-day MAE WEST. KATE WINSLET was also angelic in a seafoam-colored VALENTINO and Cojo loved CAMERON DIAZ in her white origami-like gown with the giant overlay.

The love-it-or-hate-it Oscar gown of the night was definitely NICOLE KIDMAN's striking, red halter dress with a highly fashionable yet oversized shoulder bow. Cojo wasn't loving the ensemble. "It kind of reminded me of Roma tomatoes," he mused.

Alas, 'Dreamgirls' nominee JENNIFER HUDSON got stuck with a runway creation chosen by Vogue editor-at-large ANDRE LEON TALLEY -- a chocolate gown with a pointy, short gold bolero jacket -- that disappointed our guru. "The expectations were huge," he says. "The little Martian jacket didn't work for me. I was very stunned!"

At the Emmys, the ever-stylish DEBRA MESSING was all sleek curves in a white strapless gown with dramatic black bands at the hem. "She is my superstar, she looked like a movie star," Cojo said. "[She] looked enchanting ... she looks like a starched, white napkin you see at a wedding ..."

But "Weeds" star MARY LOUISE PARKER seemed a bit frumpy in a cinched scarlet gown. "Her hair looked like Morticia!" Cojo declared. "I've never seen someone on the red carpet with so many things going wrong!"

Stars like SARAH JESSICA PARKER and JENNIFER ANISTON always bring out their finest duds for the Met's Costume Ball. but Mary-Kate Olsen went awry in a heavy, black, feathered frock that Cojo called "baboon chic"!

And his least fave trend of the year? Headbands! Yes, gold and silver headbands made a shocking comeback on the carpet as worn by LUCY LIU and JULIETTE LEWIS.
